Derek Jeter created the most magical 2001 World Series moment when just after the clock stuck midnight on November 1, he belted a 10th inning home run off Byung-hyun Kim over the right field wall, winning Game 4 of the Series. This home run earned Jeter the moniker of Mr. November. The image of Jeter rounding the bases fist held high and receiving high-fives from teammates crossing the plate give us tremendous images of the batting gloves Jeter was wearing that at bat We are NOT saying these are the exact gloves Jeter was wearing when he hit that historic home run, but these gloves were obtained by our consignor around that same time, and very well match the gloves Jeter is shown using. It is probable players use different bats and probably different gloves during the course of a game or even a seven-game series. However, there is no disputing these gloves match the one Jeter used that memorable night. Interestingly, these NIKE Air gloves features the Michael Jordan dunking emblem on the wrist strap, with Jeter’s number “2” inside the wrist. The ventilation holes move up and down the fingers, exactly like the gloves Jeter used in the 2001 World Series. These gloves exhibit extensive use, with worn areas on top and in the palm area with pine tar and dirt residue. This wear is commensurate with wear over a several week stretch which several post season series require. These gloves have been through the wars of serious baseball competition, very likely during the 2001 World Series which saw Jeter cement his stature as one of the greatest All Time Yankees. This pair of gloves matches the gloves Jeter was using during his 10th inning Mr. November home run, and if not used for that at bat, were likely used sometimes during that eventful 2001 World Series.
