Coming off his 1996 Rookie of the Year award and World Series Championship, Derek Jeter was riding high entering the 1997 season. This 33 inch, 32.6 ounce Louisville Slugger model P72 Derek Jeter professional model bat is un-cracked and exhibits evidence of excellent use, with several ball marks (including blue ink transfers and white leather scuffs) and ball stitch impressions visible on all sides of the barrel. Many cleat marks can be seen on the left and back barrel. The length of the bat at 33 inches, allows us to pinpoint the date of its order to May 7th 1997. On Derek Jeter’s Professional Bat Ordering Record (PBOR) on file at Louisville Slugger Inc., this date is the only time during Jeter’s career that we see a P72 model measuring 33 inches. The sweet spot contains a silver sharpie “Derek Jeter” signature. Based upon player use characteristics and the aforementioned player ordering records, this bat was used by Jeter during the referenced period, and one of the few bats which can be pinpointed to an actual date of order. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, cert number 1B08510 for the bat, grading GU 8.5.
