Ness achieved everlasting fame by fronting "The Untouchables" - the incorruptible squad of lawmen charged with taking down Al Capone. After the demise of Scarface, Ness left the FBI and accepted a post as the Public Safety Director of Cleveland. Though not as flashy as leading the Untouchables, Ness implemented the first widespread use of traffic lights, founded boy's clubs to keeps kids off the streets and tirelessly worked to rid the police department of corrupt elements. This check, drawn on The Union Bank of Commerce dates from March 23, 1949and is made out to the Fort Bedford Inn for $14.40. Tragically, Ness passed away in 1957 at the young age of 49 just as he was being rediscovered by a new generation through the fictional TV series based on his 1920's exploits chasing Capone. As such, Ness signatures are relatively scarce and this is a nice clean example with no cancellation stamp or perforations through his blue ball point signature. The check is authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
