Ripley began his colorful career as a cartoonist covering subjects ranging from incredible sports feats to obscure facts about unusual faraway places, however what solidified his popularity was his habit of including items sent in by his readers about unusual American trivia. By 1929 his column was syndicated and had picked up the moniker "Ripley's Believe it or Not". By 1930 he began to expand to other media outlets with a radio show which ran for 14 years, short films with Warner Brothers. By 1931 Ripley opened his first museum in Chicago and by the end of the decade he had opened 4 more and have continue beyond his death. This 8x10 black and white head shot of was hand signed in black ink by Robert Ripley in the trademark "Ripley Believe it Or Not" signature. The photo has also been inscribed and dated by Ripley.
