With the exception of Babe Ruth, no man in the pre-war era had as much power or earned as much respect as Jimmie Foxx. The affable muscle man headed the explosive offense that made Connie Mack's 1929-31 A's teams one of the greatest dynasties in professional sports. While intimidating to opposing pitchers, Foxx was known for helping young players. This ball is a testimony to his encouraging nature. The side panel directly above his signature bears the inscription "To Raymond Miller a future big league South Paw". While we do not know who this lefty was, he must have been impressive as Foxx played on the same team as the game's greatest southpaw, Lefty Grove. Foxx has signed the sweet spot of this Wilson American Association ball in blue pen. The side panel features the facsimile of president George Trautman, who headed the league from 1936 to 1945; making this a rare single-signed ball dating from Double X's playing days. The ball has a wonderful aged patina to it with light scuffing, none of which detracts from Foxx's signature. Foxx's tremendous Hall of Fame career combined with early death in 1967 makes any Double X signed material extremely desirable - none more so than a single-signed ball. Comes with letter of Authenticity WO6130 from PSA/DNA who have graded this ball a 6, the signature a 5 for an overall 5.5 grade.
