The greatest left hand pitcher in the history of the game briefly came out of retirement in the early 1970's to coach the Cleveland Indians pitching staff. The red 1972 cap has the Cleveland "C" in navy and white. The cap is a size 7 and has the original Wilson label on the inside of the sweatband. Under the brim a number has been crossed out in black marker. There are quite a few moth nips to the red fabric and overall shows heavy game use. The rarely seen navy 1973 cap has white stripes on the crown and an abstract red and white "C" on the front. Underneath the brim we see Spahn's famous number "21" in black marker. The cap is approximately a size 7 and still retains the New Era labeling. The cap exhibits heavy game use with staining and heavy wear to the sweatband. Three press photos from 1972 and 1973 show the Hall of Famer wearing these unique two cap styles. Two very scarce styles of Cleveland caps belonging to one of the winningest pitchers in Major League history. Letter of Authenticity from Hunt Auctions.
