No one did more to get the Mets the 1986 World Championship than catcher Gary Carter. Though much quieter than and not as flashy as guys like Gooden, Strawberry and Hernandez, it was Gary Carter whose veteran leadership kept the team on track during its greatest season. His clutch hitting not only won Game 5 of the '86 Series, but his 10th inning single started the rally that broke the back of the Red Sox. While he's most renown as a selfless team player, 1986 was the year of a personal milestone for the Hall of Fame catcher - his 900th career RBI, and this is the very bat he used during to knock it in. The Louisville Slugger P89 bat shows excellent use with a handle crack. The barrel exhibits many ball marks with stitch impressions along with black ink transfers and cleat imprints. Blue bat rack streaks are visible and a heavy coat of pine tar is found on the lower handle. Carter's number "8" is hand written on both the knob and barrel end of the bat. Best of all, the Hall of Fame catcher has signed the bat and proudly inscribed "900th RBI Bat April 11th 1986 vs. Phillies Hit off Larry Anderson" in black ink. Letter of Authenticity X52519 and 1B08948 from PSA/DNA who have given this Cooperstown-worthy gamer a grade of GU 9.5.
