When the Mets decided to get serious about assembling a contender, it was Gary Carter who the team traded for. The catcher was already an established superstar with the Expos - 7 time all-star, 2 time All-Star Game MVP and enough Silver Slugger Awards to fill the bat rack at Shea Stadium. It was in his first season with New York that Carter reached his 1,500 career hit, and this is the very bat he used to hit it. The Kid's Louisville Slugger P89 model bat is un-cracked and shows outstanding use. Many ball marks with stitch impressions cover the barrel along with black ink transfers and cleat imprints. Blue bat rack streaks are found and a heavy coat of pine tar is found on the lower handle. Carter's number "8" is hand written on both the knob and barrel end of the bat. Carter has signed the bat in blue marker and marked the career milestone with "1,500 Hit Bat which was a home run off of Bill Lackey of the Montreal Expos Sept 13, 1985 in Montreal". Letter of Authenticity X52516 and 1B08947 from PSA/DNA who have given this historic piece of timber their highest grade of GU 10.
