This third base was used during the first inning of the Sunday, July 2, 2014 game honoring Lou Gehrig at Yankee Stadium. The base has been customized for the special day with a gold and black plaque on the base's sides recounting Lou's immortal words spoken 75 years earlier "Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth" and the date "July 4, 1939". During the Rays' half no one reached base but the Yanks got on the board early when Brett Gardner hit a 384' solo shot over the right field wall. This base was removed after the inning and carefully tagged and labeled. The top shows great game use with some genuine Yankee Stadium turf still clinging to its surface. The date and inning of the game has been hand written on the base's bottom in black ink. Letter of Authenticity from Steiner and MLB HZ 164318.
