This superb signed ball was obtained during the May 1 and 2, 1937 series between the Red Sox and Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Of the six signatures obtained by the original owner, four are Hall of Famers: Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Lefty Grove and Herb Pennock. The other two signees are Pacific Coast League legend "Dim Don" Dallessandro and the enigmatic catcher-turned-World War II spy Moe Berg. The ball is a creamy-white Draper-Maynard Official League ball which has been marked "N.Y. May 1, 2, 1937". Lou Gehrig has signed the right panel in unbelievably strong black ink, just above the Draper-Maynard stamp. The ball can display as a single signed Gehrig, and as such would be one of the finest in the world! As befits the best southpaw to ever play the game, Lefty Grove has signed the sweet spot. Jimmie Foxx has signed on the left panel in strong black fountain pen. Dallessandro has signed below him and former Yankee ace turned Red Sox coach Herb Pennock has signed below. Lou Gehrig has signed the right panel in unbelievably strong black ink, just above the Draper-Maynard stamp. Befitting his peculiar and solitary personality, Moe Berg's signature resides on the opposite panel, alone. All the signatures practically leap off this ball, which, combined with its eclectic mixture of baseball greats (including Gehrig and Foxx who passed away much too young) makes this one heck of a desirable ball. Letters of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication X77440 and PSA/DNA V13269.
