These burgundy colored leather 16 ounce gloves were used at the very beginning of Muhammad Ali's career when he was a young Golden Gloves amateur. Each glove is marked on the interior with "C.C." in faded ink. The Post manufacturing labels are well-worn but still present. The gloves show the level of wear and tear you would expect from The Champ in training, especially around the cuffs. These historic gloves derive from the collection of the Columbia Street Gym in Louisville where the young Cassius Clay trained under Joe Martin. These gloves come with a notarized Letter of Authenticity from Joe Martin's grand-daughter, Jole Martin. As befits the historic nature of these gloves, the pair have been professionally encased in a museum quality 16" W x 23 1/2" H x 8" D plexiglass case. The front has "CASSIUS CLAY 1957-1958 WORN USED TRAINING GLOVES". A most impressive display for one of the earliest pieces of Muhammad Ali memorabilia in the hobby. LOA from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports.
