Donnie Mattingly packed a lot into his 14-year big league career with the New York Yankees. Winning the American League batting title with a .343 average in 1984 and the AL MVP award in 1985 when he also led the league with 145 RBI and 48 doubles. He followed up with a league-leading 238 hits and 53 doubles in 1986. In all, “Donnie Baseball” corralled 2,153 hits with a .307 career batting average and was named to six consecutive AL All-Star teams from 1984-1989 and won nine Gold Gloves and three Silver Slugger awards. You couldn’t fit all of that hardware into this 30” x 14” New York Yankees duffle bag, but you’ll look like a big leaguer and probably have to sign a lot of autographs when people see the big New York Yankees logos printed on both ends. Mattingly’s number 23 and the Yankees red “bat in the hat” logo are printed in 3” x 5” I.D. insert cards, just beneath the strap handles on the sides of the bag he carried around as a coach in 2006. A rubber Gerry Cosby manufacturers’ label tag is attached to the zipper handle with a shoe lace. A Cosby manufacturers’ label patch is also adhered to the opening flap. Canvas bag reveals some wear and tear from time spent on the road. Comes with a Steiner Sports Collectibles LOA.
