The largest crowd ever to descend on Cooperstown showed up for Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn’s inductions to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 29, 2007. Six years earlier the pair of baseball’s most popular players made their farewell tours at ballparks around the country. This pair of Rawlings Official MLB Authenticted, game-used balls provides two historic artifacts from Riken and Gwynn’s final big league season. The first Rawlings Official Bud Selig Major League ball (GR087793) was used in Ripken’s final game at The Ballpark in Arlington. This is where he knocked a homer off reliever Darren Oliver, in the top of the seventh inning of the Rangers 9-7 victory over the Orioles. The second Rawlings Official Bud Selig Major League ball (GR88731) was used in Tony Gwynn’s last series against the Philadelphia Phillies at Veterans Stadium on August 7, 2001. Both balls show moderate game use.
