Even his laundry list of accomplishments pale in comparison to this item. This bright blue, Italian-made Pal Zileri suit was worn by legendary quarterback Joe Montana on the day of his retirement announcement, April 18, 1995. Don’t believe it? Well it’s signed by the Hall of Famer in silver Sharpie on the inside breast pocket along with the words, “Worn April 18, 1995.” Also included is a cachet cover envelope, also signed by Montana, postmarked the same day from San Francisco, California with side-by-side photos, one in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform and the other sporting these same fancy duds. Though the jacket has no size indication, the collar sports a “made in Italy” tag; the right inside includes manufacturers’ labels, and the opposite side has a “Stewart Chicago” patch above the aforementioned signature. The pants label shows the suit to be 92% wool (8% rayon) and the back of the inside waistband is similarly inscribed by Montana, this time in black. While the suit as a whole is in almost immaculate condition, there is some light staining inside the front and back waistband of the pants, perhaps from storage. Signed LOA from Joe Montana.
