Like its title character Sylvester Stallone’s 1976 film “Rocky” was an underdog low-budget film that shocked the world by grossing $225 million at the box office and winning the Academy Award’s Oscar for Best Picture and turned writer/director Stallone into an overnight superstar.
This 36” x 24” promotional movie poster is signed by 50 real life Rocky-like characters from the boxing industry including former heavyweight champions Buster Douglas, Leon Spinks, Larry Holmes (in silver sharpie on Rocky in the poster)and Ernie Terrell, as well as champions and contenders from numerous weight classes like Marvin Hagler, Emile Griffith, Alexis Arguello, Aaron Pryor, Pernell Whitaker, Ron Lyle, Gerry Cooney, Gene Fullmer, George Chuvalo, Carmen Basilio, Jose Torres, Livingston Bramble, Billy Backus, Hector Camacho, Marlon Starling, Michael Carbajal and “The Coal Miner’s Daughter”; Christy Martin. Writers, trainers, broadcasters and promoters like Bob Arum, Lou Duva, Emmanuel Steward, Dave Anderson, Gil Clancy, Angelo Dundee, and Bert Sugar also signed the poster.
