Decades later, Al Michaels’ historic call still resonates throughout the hockey world; “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!” This iconic 16x20” photo captures the sheer jubilation of a bunch of college hockey players who captured one of the most unlikely gold medals in Olympic history, with the US victory at the 1980 Lake Placid games. This unframed photo features 19 vivid signatures in blue Sharpie, and includes the likes of Neal Broten, Jim Craig, and team Captain Mike Eruzione. A tremendous snapshot of one of the great moments in US sports history. One historical footnote – while the monumental upset of the USSR is the most noted moment of their medal run, the largely forgotten element of the “Miracle on Ice” is the fact that the game did not actually earn the gold. Due to the unusual round-robin format used for the championship round at that time, the US team still needed a victory over Finland two days later, which they achieved by a come-from-behind 4-2 count on the strength of three third period goals.
