In the team’s fourth season since moving from Brooklyn, it all started to come together for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1962, but despite winning 102 games the Dodgers failed to reach the World Series losing a two-out-of three playoff to the San Francisco Giants after finishing tied for first at the end of the season. The ’62 Dodgers featured a glamorous, star-studded cast that included Hall of Famer Sandy Koufaxy, 1962 Cy Young award winner Don Drysdale, NL batting champion tommy Davis and speedster Maury Wills who set a new single-season record with 104 stolen bases. Big Frank Howard clubbed 31 home runs with 119 RBI and a .296 batting average. This Spalding Official National League Warren Giles ball carries 25 signatures from the 1962 team including Hall of Famers, Koufax, Drysdale, Walter Alston, Leo Durocher, and Duke Snider as well as Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese who worked as broadcaster calling games for CBS Game of the Week at the time. Maybe players took more time signing their signatures or perhaps they just received better penmanship instruction at school but every one of the autographs on this ball is clearly legible. Jim Gilliam, Duke Snider, Tommy Davis, Ed Roebuck, Maury Wills, Don Drysdale, and Pee Wee Reese share one panel with Joe Moeller, Tim Harkness, Lee Walls, Wally Moon, Stan Williams, Greg Mulleavy, and Norm Sherry on the opposite side. Ron Fairly, John Roseboro, Frank Howard, Willie Davis, Phil Ortega and Andy Carey, are on yet another panel with Ron Perranoski, Larry Sherry, Daryl Spencer, Johnny Podres and Sandy Koufax on the other. Alston and Durocher share the sweet spot. All signatures are in black ball point ink and ball comes with PSA/DNA LOA #UO1509.
