This is an incredible original teletype record lets one follow in real-time the most historic scientific mission in the history of man - the 1969 Apollo 11 space mission and American astronaut Neil Armstrong becoming the “First Man on the Moon.” This historic paper scroll which measures more than 12 feet in length reports the events of this remarkable mission as they transpired between Ground Control and the crew of Apollo 11 made up of Armstrong and fellow astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. We cannot think of a more historic event to have preserved as an archive and an example of news reporting before the age of the Internet and live audio and video feeds than the Apollo 11 mission. This original Teletype is sourced from the surviving archives of a radio station which relayed the news over the radio to its listeners as it unfolded. Opening the scroll quickly reveals reports from the Space Center as follows: “Two American Spacemen Stood…Walked…Hopped and worked on the surface of the moon tonight… and the world watched the climax of centuries of dreams and ambitions… Astronauts Neil Armstrong is the first man to set a foot on an alien world…. To Armstrong went the honor of planting the American Flag…” This reporting style certainly had people at “the edge of their seats,” and those that could, glued to the teletype machine to watch and read the printed paper rolling off history in the making. Among the messages are “…Houston picked up the Armstrong signal and Tranquility responded that it is reading Houston Loud and Clear.” And, “…Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin both returned to the lunar lander “Eagle” early this morning after the most dazzling day in man’s history.” This is a most significant artifact that lay witness to history that can ultimately be used to create more than one display. Comes with Gotta Have It LOA.
