Among the thousands of technical advancements and new innovations conceived to support the Apollo space program was the way food was packaged for the astronauts. What kid could forget that Tang was one of the inventions meant to make life in space more comforting for the 20th century explorers? As the Apollo missions lasted longer and longer, the astronauts needed more substantial nourishment to sustain them during their space exploration. The 1972 Apollo 16 mission was the longest of the moon trips, lasting more than 10 days and made famous for the use of the Lunar Rover cruiser. This unique item here is a rare package of unconsumed space food supplied to the NASA astronauts during at mission. Ten day away from home is long enough to make one home sick, but ten days away from planet Earth must have been unreal! To bring a little comfort to the Astronauts after a hard day of lunar exploration behind the wheel of the Lunar Rover, NASA scientists developed this staple of home-cooking - “spaghetti with meat sauce”. The food pouch is labeled for its contents with posted instructions for preparing this undoubtedly heavenly meal: “3 oz. hot water 5-10 minutes” A small label with a serial number “FZ634” is posted on the back of the pouch. Visually, the package looks like something from outer space. Measuring approximately 4” x 13”, the vacuum-packed pouch has a nozzle connection designed to allow the hot water injector to be inserted. An anti-bacterial pill is sealed within the package and designed to be broken upon consumption. Items flown into space are extremely scare and desirable, and are physical representations of mankind’s largest technological achievements. But, while there have been many scientific advances - little has changed as far as the taste of the human palette for spaghetti and meat sauce! Comes with Gotta Have It LOA.
