The first verse to “My Country, 'Tis of Thee” entitled “America “is handwritten by its’ famed songwriter Samuel F. Smith on this 4.5 X 5.5 piece of lined paper in black fountain pen that he has signed, inscribed and dated. Smith signed his immortal lyrics , “S.F.Smith,” and inscribed “Written in Feb. 1832,” representing the year in which it was published and has dated it “This autograph, Dec. 29, ’94.” Sung by every school child during the 20th Century and clearly one of America’s most patriotic songs, Smith wrote his lyrics when he was a seminary student in study to be a minister in 1831. The song was first performed on July 4, 1831 in Boston and published for posterity the year later. Framed dimesions 8"x9".
