Only West Coast Pacific Coast League fans were not surprised when Joe DiMaggio captured the baseball world with his incredible 56 game hitting streak in 1941. See, when Joe was a youngster playing for his home town San Francisco Seals back in 1933 he not only hit in 56 consecutive games but went 5 more to make it 61! This amazing historic archive from the estate of Joe DiMaggio consists of an original 7.25” x 9.375” original 1933 studio photograph of DiMaggio labeled and signed in print by the photographer “Joe De Maggio, Breaking P.C.L. consecutive Hit record. July 14, 1933.” DiMaggio was too humble to correct common misspellings of his name at that time. This is the very same portrait being kissed by Mrs. Guiseppe P. DiMaggio in the accompanying 6.5” x 8.5” original black and white wire photograph. Taken on the eve of the 1937 World Series against the New York Giants, DiMaggio was in only his second year as a big leaguer. In the press caption dated 10-6-37 on the verso of this wire photograph, the scene is described as, “…She will listen to all the broadcasts of the World Series and hopes Joe will stay with baseball-make it his profession.” DiMaggio did indeed make baseball his career with baseball records lined with his feats – including of course that 56 game streak during that unforgettable Summer of ’41. The 1933 studio photograph is also accompanied by its’ original studio folder from the San Francisco area photographer. This is a rare opportunity to acquire such an amazing archive that Joe DiMaggio understandably valued and preserved for decades. Comes with Gotta Have It LOA.
