Original Civil War artifacts, particularly weapons, are highly prized by collectors today. Here we have one of the most iconic pieces of Civil War weaponry - the cavalry saber. Based on the 1822 French Cavalry Saber, this sword was the standard sidearm carried by every Union cavalryman. These sabers were also put to good use by Confederate troopers when captured on the battlefield. Officially called the Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber, this is a formidable weapon made of bone piercing steel measures 39 inches in total length. Its blade is 33 inches and carries its original markings: one side is stamped “U.S.” and “U.S. ADK 1862” is stamped on the other side. The sword's scabbard is also including which features the mounting rings used when attached to a trooper's horse or worn on his belt. The sword remains in excellent condition having survived from the battlefield from this tumultuous war waged between the states from 1861 to 1865. Comes with Gotta Have It LOA.
