In 1987, Academy Award winning Director Oliver Stone was directing a film he had co-written about a young stockbroker who becomes involved with a wealthy, unscrupulous corporate raider. Stone made the film, Wall Street, as a tribute to his father who was a stockbroker during the Great Depression and it has come to be seen as the archetypal portrayal of 1980s excess in the United States. During the making of the film, Stone received a message from a gentleman named Craig Kreuger. Stone, in turn, wrote back to Mr. Kreuger on stationary with “Wall Street” letterhead thanking Kreuger for his thoughts and indicating that he would like to get together with him sometime in the future. However, Stone also mentioned that fact that “I am now shooting a film and have no time.” Stone also tells Kreuger to keep up his commitment to “impact the American consciousness about significant issues.” The letter is dated April 6, 1987 and film-goers were thankful Stone stayed focused on directing the film. As it turns out, Wall Street was well received among major film critics, including Roger Ebert, and Michael Douglas won the Academy Award for Best Actor. The letter comes framed along side a Time magazine cover featuring the actors from the film Platoon, another movie written and directed by Oliver Stone that won an Academy Award in 1986 for Best Picture. The signed letter also comes with a full page LOA from PSA.
