Known for his free-style comedy, Lenny Bruce was ahead of his time integrating politics, religion, sex and vulgarity in his own form of satirical comedy. His shocking frankness on stage led to his arrest and trial for obscenity in which he was found not guilty in landmark trial supporting freedom of speech. Bruce gave his last public stand-up comedy performance at San Francisco’s famed Fillmore Auditorium on June 1966 and was found dead of a drug overdose five weeks later.
