This is a fascinating original Civil War era celluloid pocket diary. This rare pocket accessory has the rich look of ivory adorned by a silver-tone shield engraved with the scripted initials R.C.A." on the face and is closed by a precision clasp enclosure. Measuring 1.5 X 3 when closed, the diary opens like a fan to reveal six panels; one for each day of the week except Sunday which historically was recognized as a day of rest. Faint pencil notations are barely visible on some of the panels. Unlike so many surviving artifacts having a direct military use, this is more of a personal effect for a soldier or beloved family member to record their most personal thoughts. This is a well constructed artifact from this important era in American history. Comes with a Gotta Have It certificate that unconditionally guarantees the authenticity of this item."
