Perhaps the happiest of times for Mets fans, while the 1969 World Series championship team was regarded as a “Miracle” and the 1973 NL pennant winners almost unbelievable (“Ya Gotta Believe”), the 1986 Mets were a powerhouse club that steamrolled to the NL east division title with a 108-54 record, finishing 21.5 games in front of the second place Phillies. The Mets won a dramatic six-game series over the Houston Astros in the NLCS and a an unforgettable, heart-stopping, seven game series over the Boston Red Sox in the World Series highlighted by an indelible come from behind rally in Game Six culminating with Mookie Wilson’s slow-rolling ground ball finding its way through Bill Buckner’s legs.
