The late Tony Gwynn, an eight-time NL batting champion who earned 15 All-Star nominations and five Gold Glove awards, was an easy choice as a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2007. Gwynn, a career .338 hitter, sported these Nike “Tn AIR” turf shoes during batting practice prior to games. Gwynn signed the right foot of the size 11 shoes boldly in silver paint pen. The manufacturer label on the inside tongue of the shoes reveals a “07-05-00” date mark. The shoes show extreme signs of pregame use, with field paint and dirt stains all along the white trim of the cleats. The bottom of the shoes is caked with dirt and gravel. A sunflower seed is even visible in the treads of the left shoe. The Gwynn signed, game-used cleats come with a Tony Gwynn LOA, Global Authentics LOA and are PSA/DNA certified, number “X90285.”
