Jesses Owens is an American track and field athlete who won four gold medals in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. During the summer Olympics in Germany, Adolf Hitler wanted to show the world that his German athletes, and the Aryan race were superior to those of other nationalities and ethnic backgrounds but Owens had ideas of his own. Owens countered this belief by winning multiple gold medals and stood proudly atop the winner’s podium tearing down Hitler’s belief that his Aryan athletes were superior. Frank Shorter is an American long distance runner who won the gold medal in the marathon at the 1972 summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. Credit is often given to Shorter for America’s running boom in the 1970s. Presented in this lot is a Banquet Program from the Thirtieth Annual Florida Relays at the University of Florida on March 30th, 1973. This program is signed by both Jesse Owens and Frank Shorter on the front of the program. Owen’s signature is signed in fiber-tip marker and Shorter’s signature is signed in ballpoint pen. Also included are two ticket stubs to the 30th Annual Florida Relays, two Florida Relays special guest side line passes and a souvenir program from the same event. Signatures are authenticated by JSA and come with a full LOA.
