The Southern Association began operations in 1901, comprised of eight teams located in the Deep South including cities Atlanta, Montgomery, Birmingham, Nashville, Shreveport, New Orleans Memphis and Little Rock. The league last until 1961. The annual meeting of 1906 was held on December 29 at the Florence Hotel in Birmingham, AL, and the minutes of that meeting were produced in booklet form, of which one is presented here. The 6-1/8 x 4-3/8 inch 16 page booklet includes a Financial Statement printed inside the back cover, and a list of dozens of new motions discussed by the team representatives. As a new league, they apparently had many suggestions for change in those early years. The booklet remains in excellent shape, with some light toning on the covers, more so near the spine, which is fully intact and remains very strong. There are a few light creases, and minor paper loss to the back cover, which have protected the inner pages quite nicely. This is a seemingly rare booklet describing the internal workings of the new Southern Association, a league where Joe Jackson played before he made his mark on the major leagues. Excellent overall condition.
