Big-swinging outfielder Gary Sheffield made a lot of stops along the way during his highly productive 22-year Major League Baseball career. That included two seasons in Detroit toward the end of his career when “Sheff” was chasing the 500 home run plateau. This signed, grey game-used Detroit Tigers button-down road jersey comes from Sheffield’s 2008 season with the team. Sheffield signed the front of the jersey in bold, blue sharpie along with the inscription “Game Used 2008” and “Road to 500.” Sheffield, who finished the 2008 season with 499 career homers, hit a 3-run bomb while wearing this jersey against Texas on Sept. 15, 2008. The jersey features “Detroit” scripted across the chest with Sheffield’s number “3” below in navy blue on orange and white tackle twill. The top back of the jersey reads “SHEFFIELD” with his number “3” below, also in navy blue on orange and white tackle twill. The front left tail of the jersey boasts a “Majestic Authentic Collection” manufacturer’s label with a white strip tag below that reads “3 52 08 326.” The jersey shows heavy signs of game use, with prominent grass stains on the front and rear tail, as well as throughout Sheffield’s name on the back. The signed, game-used jersey is certified under the MLB Authentication program, number “LH141035,” is PSA/DNA certified, number “X90289” and comes with and LOA from noted sports jersey expert Dave Miedema.
