This official souvenir program from the 1931 World Series played between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Athletics was a rematch of the 1930 World Series between both teams. The St. Louis Cardinals were crowned World Series Champions after clinching the win in game seven. The Athletics rallied in the top of the ninth inning but it wasn’t enough to hold back the Cardinals, who had lost the 1930 World Series to Philadelphia. On the front cover is a red cardinal flying down across a baseball as an elephant carrying an A’s banner slung over its back is marching forward to a hopeful victory. Notable players featured in the program are Hall of Famers Connie Mack, Jimmie Fox and Lefty Grove. Inside the program several box scores are filled out along with inscriptions from the original owner along the top of the front cover. Also included is a newspaper clipping from the Philadelphia Daily News dated Wednesday, October 7, 1931, with the headline, “Cards Take Series Lead.” Featured on the front page of the clipping is a box-score from game five of the series. The cover shows some wear as does the spine of the program. Inside of program in excellent condition.
