This official souvenir program from the 1940 Briggs Stadium World Series played between the Detroit Tigers and the Cincinnati Reds features stories on both ball clubs and it also includes various statistics from each team. On the front cover is a menacing tiger with his claws out leaning over a baseball set against a red background. The Reds would go on to win the closely contested series, in which they triumphed over the Tigers clinching a game seven victory winning 2 to 1. Notable players featured in the program are Hall of Fame players Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, and Ernie Lombardi. The program also features many interesting advertisements selling everything from Rum and Maple Cigarettes to Ward’s Tip-Top Bread of Champions. Also included is an Observer-Dispatch sports page newspaper clipping dated Wednesday, October 9, 1940, with the headline, “Cincinnati Headachy After Wild Celebration.” The article includes a photo of the Cincinnati Reds celebrating their game seven World Series win. The scored program is in very good condition with only slight edge wear on the front cover.
