Just after beating Sonny Liston for the heavyweight title in 1964, Cassius Clay converted to Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. The new, foreign-sounding name and conversion to Islam turned the Olympic Gold Medalist into a very polarizing figure. When challenger Floyd Patterson refused to call him by his Muslim name in the run up to their November 1965 bout, Ali inflicted a merciless 12 round beating on him, continually taunting Patterson with "what's my name?". The black-trimmed snow-white robe has been signed flawlessly in black Sharpie by Ali using his given name of "Cassius Clay". Since changing his name to Muhammad Ali in 1964, The Champ rarely signed his given name and this is a chance to obtain a very nice example of a rarely seen signature. Letter of Authenticity from Steiner.
