1981 proved to be the last of Jackson’s five turbulent seasons with the Yankees. When owner George Steinbrenner made overtures that Reggie was over the hill as a player, Jackson, as he always did, doubled-down and had one of his finest seasons. In fact it was his play-off home run that got the Yankees into the World Series against the Dodgers. In a sad power play, Steinbrenner had Yankees manager Bob Lemon sit Jackson during Game 3. Reggie’s bat was sorely missed in the ensuing loss and some writers blamed the 1981 Dodgers victory squarely on Steinbrenner’s actions. Regardless, Jackson’s 1981 season and post-season actions proved he was still The King and in 1982 began the third phase of his Hall of Fame career when he went west to join the California Angels. The Adirondack 288RJ bat shows moderate use with a handle crack that has been repaired. As you’d expect from a Reggie Jackson gamer, the barrel exhibits checking from repeated ball contact. The Hall of Famer has signed above the stamped endorsement on the barrel in silver pen. A great Reggie game used bat from the sweet spot of his career. Letter of Authenticity 1B09596 from PSA/DNA.
