Offered is a high-grade, 572-card complete set of 1960 Topps baseball cards. For 1960, Topps combined its then relatively new and intriguing, smaller-size format with a horizontal design theme that hadn't been since the company produced its classic 1956 issue. A visually captivating array, the '60 set delivered two images of the subject player on each "regular" card (again emulating Topps for '56), and also featured exciting line-ups of multi-player, team photo, All-Star and World Series entries. A scarcer series of "High Numbers" contributed to the set's allure, and added to the challenge of assembling it.
The 1960 release showcases a powerful line-up of rookie cards, highlighted by Willie McCovey and Carl Yastrzemski, as well as a plethora of Hall of Famers and superstars. (Some of the season's most prominent figures appeared on a multitude of cards.) This 1960 Topps gallery includes 217 pieces (each lacking any qualifiers) that have been graded and encapsulated at enviable levels by PSA. The cumulative value of these items alone - evaluated by that company's SMR - is nearly $7,000.
Our consignor carefully merged several 1960 Topps sets to form the one extremely refined, top-grade set presented here. But, he took the project to an even higher level of sophistication: through many hours of discriminating comparison, he upgraded the set's graded cards as well as many raw cards.
