President George H.W. Bush had a storied political career having served his country during World War II, later becoming a Congressman and U.N. Ambassador which eventually led him to act as Director of the C.I.A. After serving as President Reagan’s Vice President and he ran for election, winning the Presidency. He is best remembered for fighting the war on drugs and for defeating Iraq in the Gulf War. This typed letter is signed, “George” by President George H.W. Bush, and was written to a friend named, “Sam” thanking him for his, “concern” as he attended a Drug Summit in Columbia. The letter reads in part, “Many thanks for your letter and kind words of support. I appreciate, too, your concern for my safety in Columbia. Our meetings were very productive, and I left Cartagena feeling upbeat.” This letter dated, “March 7, 1990” measures, 6.25” x 4.25” and its letterhead features the presidential seal at the top left hand corner.
