The 23rd President of the United States Benjamin Harrison signed this approximate, 3x7.75 Fletcher & Sharpe’s Bank check to a, “James Greene,” who has signed his name on the reverse. Harrison started his career as an attorney and a Presbyterian church leader and politician in Indianapolis, Indiana. In the American Civil War he served for the Union Army, then later he was elected to the United States Senate. During his time as president he helped to modernize and strengthen the Navy, and he helped create the National Forest which are forest areas that are owned collectively by the American people by way of the federal government and taken care of by the U.S. Forest Service.
