In what was billed as “His First Big Test,” by his own trainer Angelo Dundee, Sugar Ray Leonard battled Floyd Mayweather Sr. to a 10 round knockout in the 14th fight of his professional career. This 14” x 22” promotional poster includes photos of the participants and captures all of Sugar Ray’s youthful exuberance as he was in the early stages of his legendary career, just two years removed from his Gold Medal victory at the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics. The poster reads; “Ten Rounds of Boxing, Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Floyd Mayweather, Providence Civic Center, Saturday, September 9, 1978 at 5 PM,” and lists all of the preliminary bouts including one featuring Leonard’s younger brother Roger. Tickets were available from $6.50-$12.50. Black and white poster is in excellent shape and comes with a piece of foam pressboard suitable for mounting.
