For designated hitter Victor Martinez, his first season in Detroit in 2011 was a solid one. Martinez, a five-time All-Star, hit .330 that year with 103 RBI. This Martinez game-used jersey and hat comes from Detroit’s July 16, 2011 game against the White Sox, which was a Negro League throwback contest. Modeling their uniform after the Detroit Stars of the early 1900s, Martinez’s number “41” appears on the back of this cream-colored, button-down jersey in red on navy blue tackle twill. The front left chest of the jersey boasts a “Stars” logo in red tackle twill with a navy blue border. The right sleeve of the jersey is home to a “SPARKY 11” memoriam patch shaped after a home plate to honor late Tigers manager Sparky Anderson. An “AIS” manufacturer’s label is found on the inside reverse tail of the jersey and reads size “48.” The jersey shows heavy signs of game use, with several areas of dirt and pine tar stains. Martinez’s cap is cream with a navy blue brim and red stitched “Stars” logo on the front. The underside of the brim has Martinez’s number “41” penned in silver sharpie. The inner headband is home to a “California Custom Caps” manufacturer’s label, while the inside top of the hat has a size “7 ¼” tag. The game-used cap shows light signs of game use and is verified under the MLB Authentication program, number “FJ607413.” Both the jersey and cap are JSA certified, number “A36143,” and come with an LOA from noted sports jersey expert Dave Miedema.
