This offering includes an envelope with address written by General George Custer. Sent to his wife, Elizabeth, it is addressed simply to, “Mrs Genl Custer, Fort Leavenworth, Kns.” The postmark is dated May 20, and the date “May 19, 1870” is written in pencil. A canceled three-cent stamp is intact in the top right corner. The 3x5” envelope is torn down the right side to remove the letter. Though he is best remembered for his final battle at Little Bighorn, he was a well respected officer during the Civil War. Encapsulated PSA/DNA NM-MT 8.
