When he took the mound for the first time for his New York Mets, Jacob DeGrom was full of promise, which he delivered on as the National League’s Rookie of the Year. This Official Major League (Selig) offering was used in his Major League debut on May 15, 2014, against the rival New York Yankees. The ball shows nice use from the pitch in the dirt thrown to Brett Gardner in the top of the 3rd, with a prominent dirt scuff along the seam. DeGrom has signed on the sweet spot in blue ballpoint pen and inscribed “MLB DEBUT 5-15-14 GAME USED.” He was the hard-luck loser in that game after giving up just one run in seven innings of work.
