The 1980 Winter Olympics held at Lake Placid, New York, will be forever known for, “The Miracle on Ice.” The heavily favored Soviet Union national team had won the four previous ice hockey gold medals were up against the United States national team which was made up of amateur and collegiate players. The Soviet Union team was made up of a group of exceptionally talented players, and veterans who had international experience, some of whom would go on to be elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Already natural rivals, due to a decades old Cold War, the American’s showed grit and an unrelenting determination to pull off one of the greatest upsets in sports history by defeating the Soviet Union national team and winning the gold medal captivating the nation. This 1980s USA Ice Hockey ticket from the Olympic Games is signed by center Neal Broten and Left Wing Rob McClanahan as well as Phil Verchota, all signed in blue marker on the face of the ticket.
