Originating from the estate of legendary New York Yankees catcher Thurman Munson, this is his original 1973 Certificate of Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army National Guard awarded the same year that he received the first of three consecutive Gold Glove Awards. The certificate measures 8 X 10 and grants “Thurman Lee Munson, Private First Class,” a full honorable discharge from service. The certificate includes its original mailing envelope (addressed to Munson) along with a related discharge questionnaire form. Thurman Munson was the 1st catcher to ever win the American League Rookie of the Year Award and became the only Yankee to win both the ROY and Most Valuable Player Awards upon being named the AL MVP in 1976. Munson achieved many other honors during his 11-year career that ended tragically in a fatal plane crash. The Yankees have honored Munson with the retirement of his number "15." Includes letter of provenance from Diana Munson.
