President John F. Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson appear here together, looking relaxed and jovial, in this 10 x 13 black and white original studio portrait photograph taken by famed LIFE Magazine photographer Robert Phillips. It is very rare to see the two men, rivals within their own party, pictured together in studio portrait style such as this (both had vied for the Democratic party’s Presidential nomination at the Los Angeles convention in 1960, with Kennedy winning and subsequently asking Johnson to be his Vice President). The photographer’s credit is stamped on the verso.
