Dubbed “The Curacao Kid,” Andrew Jones made an immediate impact when he burst on the big league scene as a teenage phenomenon. Drawing comparisons to none other than Mickey Mantle for his prowess at the plate and fleet footedness in the field, Jones also earned accolades for his sure hands and canon arm in center field. Jones made his debut at the age of 19 in August of 1996 and soon became the youngest player to hit a home run in the post season and just the second player to hit home runs in his first two World Series at bats, connecting for the pair in Game One of the 1996 Series against the New York Yankees. Jones was a powerful hitter knocking 434 home runs in his 17-year career including a league-leading, career-high of 51 in 2005 but was perhaps even more impressive in the field; winning 10 consecutive Gold Gloves from 1998-2007.
Jones earned this gorgeous piece of golden hardware for his performance during the 2000 season when he was also named to his first All-Star team and finished eighth in NL MVP voting. Among the most coveted of awards these beauties look even better close up, displaying a gold-painted Rawlings glove branded in its pocket with the words: “Rawlings Gold Glove Award” in black and mounted on a solid Oak platform. It features a portrait of Jones etched into a metallic gold colored plate with a pair of gold painted Rawlings baseballs supported by golden tripods (one of which has its tips broken off) on either side above the descriptive nameplate adorned with the familiar red Rawlings logo under each ball and “2000 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Presented to Andruw Jones Honoring His Selection As “THE FINEST IN THE FIELD!™”
This highly sought after piece from Jones’ private collection comes with notarized letter of authenticity from Andruw Jones.
