Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in Tres Coracoes, Brazil on October 23, 1940 but later known simply as “Pele,” he was already one of one the most famous athletes in the world and member of three FIFA World Cup-winning teams with the Brazilian National Team when he joined the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League in 1975. He is often credited with raising American awareness of soccer and increasing the game’s popularity. In the twilight of his career Pele led the Cosmos to the 1977 NASL Championship in his third and final season with the team.

     Pele wore this vintage white pullover jersey with an accentuated green V-neck collar and green ringed sleeve ends during the Cosmos most memorable championship season. Pele’s number 10 is stitched onto the 65% polyester 35% cotton, soft and supple jersey in emerald green tackle twill on the front and back as well as the right sleeve with his four-letter name “PELE” running across the back in the same tackle twill. The Cosmos circular soccer ball in a whirlwind logo is printed on the left front breast. An Umbro International Large size Made In England manufacturers label is attached on the inside rear collar. This jersey exhibits moderate game use and has been softened by repeated washing. Two-piece lot includes a very well-worn black and yellow pair of size-9 Pony King Pele cleats with black laces that exhibit extensive game use; cleat are worn down and plenty of dirt remains on the out soles. Black leather outer vamps are extremely soft and yellow Pony logo v-stripes on the exterior heels are covered with black scuff. Historic jersey and cleats combo comes with bilingual certificate of authenticity signed by Pele’s former New York Cosmos teammate Alfredo Lamas.
