Baseball’s original elder statesman, there was an air of dignity in every move Connie Mack made as the longest serving manager in major league history and part owner of the Philadelphia Athletics franchise from 1901-1950, becoming the majority shareholder in 1936. “The Tall Tactician” was one of a select few baseball managers to wear plain clothes in the dugout although in his case they were not the plain, usually a very regal looking suit accompanied by a formal looking bowler or derby hat. Mack still holds the major league records with 3,731 wins, 3,948 losses and 7,755 games managed, exceeding the next closest manager (John McGraw) by more than 1,000 wins. This Reach Official League Ball is prominently signed by Mack in bold black ink grading a solid (“9”) and is one of the finest specimens of its kind. Single signed ball displays only light toning and has been coated with a light layer of protective shellac and contained in a sturdy Becket Grading case with JSA LOA labeling certification #Y49953.
