Bill Buckner (Boston Red Sox) and Mookie Wilson (New York Mets) have signed and inscribed this exceedingly rare game used baseball from Game 6 of the 1986 World Series in recognition of one of the most famous plays in World Series history - the play in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series between the Mets and Red Sox when Wilson's hit went through the legs of Bill Buckner. Boston had not won a World Series since 1918, due to what many say is the "Curse of the Bambino." After taking the 10th inning lead, and retiring two batters to bring them within one out of winning the Series in six games, Boston gave up two runs, one by virtue of a wild pitch. Still only one out away, the Mets game-winning run was given up when Mookie Wilson's ground ball sped through the legs of Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner. The Mets went on to win game 7 to become World Champions. This Official 1986 World Series baseball used in this notorious game is inscribed from these two famous participants "10/25/86 Bill Buckner, game 6, Shea Stadium," in black ballpoint pen and "Mookie Wilson GM 6 Used Ball," in blue ballpoint pen. The ball shown here is the only game used ball from this historic game that we have seen, aside from the ball from the actual Buckner error play which sold for $99,000 at auction, to actor Charlie Sheen, and then sold again in 2012 for $418,000 Could this have been the "wild pitch" thrown to Wilson by Red Sox pitcher Bob Stanley a few pitches earlier with the count 2 outs - 2 strikes that allowed Kevin Mitchell to score and tie the game 5-5, setting the stage for the famous Game 6 climax. Comes certified by PSA/DNA and MEARS.
