"The Amazing Spider-Man" #1 (March, 1963) - CGC Universal Grade 6.5, with Off-White pages. (1st appearances of J. Jonah Jameson and the Chameleon; Fantastic Four crossover; Origin of Spider-Man retold.) Spider-Man's first issue was launched with a bang: Stan Lee essentially guaranteed a successful debut for the title by having the popular Fantastic Four make their first guest appearance. As predicted, this new Amazing Spider-Man title quickly became one of the industry’s best sellers. Today, it stands as writer Lee's and artist Steve Ditko's greatest personal success in their long history of producing comic books. This first issue has proven to be one of the “top two” most desirable collectors' items that Marvel has ever released, and it is second only to the character's first appearance in Amazing Fantasy. Spider-Man is still an industry leader, and he now has several blockbuster motion pictures to his credit, as well. After more than a half-century’s residence in the top tier of the sales charts, Spider-Man shows no signs of running out of steam. This solid copy concedes unobtrusive faults consistent with the grade, and a small date stamping in ink is visible at the top of the front cover. This collectible is a true Marvelite’s dream, and a highly appealing representation of a popular franchise’s cornerstone.
