"The Incredible Hulk" #1 (5/62) - CGC Universal Grade 7.5, with Off-White to White pages (story by Lee, cover by Kirby and Roussos, interior art by Kirby and Reinman; Origin and first appearance of the Incredible Hulk; 1st appearance of Rick Jones, Betty Ross and Gen. "Thunderbolt" Ross.) In the early months of 1962, the Fantastic Four were no longer alone in the "Marvel Universe." Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did a masterful job of creating a companion book for the Fantastic Four, a book that told the sympathetic tale of a monster named the Incredible Hulk. It was similar to many of the Marvel "monster" books in its day, with a large creature rampaging through the countryside. The observer will quickly note that the Hulk – as pictured on the cover of this sought-after debut issue – wore skin that projected a bilious gray hue. (He quickly acquired the more familiar green tone for subsequent issues.) As expected, this publication’s Stan Lee dialogue and Jack Kirby artwork come together as an outstanding collaboration, and certainly live up to fans’ anticipation. This is a thrilling and important book, and an ideal foundation piece for any Incredible Hulk collection.
